Construction of new neighborhood park underway at Covington Knolls in Lemont
Jun 20, 2008 - Construction of a 2.5 acre neighborhood park is now underway at Covington Knolls where the Lemont Park District is building a gazebo, restroom facilities, sand volleyball, tennis and basketball courts as well as a playground area. Gallagher and Henry, who is building estate-style single-family homes at Covington Knolls, donated the land to the park district.
“Covington Knolls is a community, primarily, of young families so a neighborhood park is a real benefit to them and their children,” said Covington Knolls sales manager, Sandie Kanakes. “They’re very grateful to Gallagher and Henry for seeing the importance of donating the land to the park district and look forward to the August completion and the introduction of outdoor movie nights at Covington Knolls Park.
The park is tucked away towards the back of the community and 22 homesites are within walking distance of the new park. Many are cul-de-sac locations and all of these homesites are spacious, private and within a few steps of the recreational center and main gathering place for Covington Knolls residents……the new Covington Knolls Park.”
Located in Cook County, just east of the newly opened 127th Street exit for the I-355 extension, Covington Knolls is a neighborhood that will consist of 440 stately single-family homes ranging from 1,850 to 3,700 square feet in size when complete. Fewer than 100 of the homes remain for sale with homes currently priced from $388,800 to $513,700. 18 different floors plans including ranch and two-story semi-custom home designs are available with three to four bedrooms; two to 3 ½ baths; basements; partial brick exteriors; and attached two and three-car garages. Three model homes are open daily for touring.
“One of our most popular plans has been the Wrightwood,” Kanakes said. “Growing families are most impressed with the large island kitchen with peninsula counter, octagonal-shaped breakfast room and 15-by-22-foot family room. This combined space comprises more than 1/3 of the overall square footage of the Wrightwood and buyers love it because they tell us that’s where they spend the bulk of their time as a family as well as when they’re entertaining.”
Highlights of the Wrightwood, priced from $476,700, include four bedrooms; 2 ½ baths; soaring two-story foyer; large living room and adjoining dining room; island kitchen with peninsula counter and octagon-shaped breakfast room; expansive family room; first-floor study; master bedroom suite with his-and-hers walk-in closets and private bath with whirlpool tub and separate shower; three generously-sized secondary bedrooms served by a full hall bath; 9’ first-floor ceilings; partial basement; and attached three-car garage.
In addition to new neighborhood park, Covington Knolls boasts numerous advantages. The Lemont Metra station is less than five minutes from Covington Knolls and provides access to the Loop in 45 minutes. The newly opened 127th Street exit of the I-355 extension is less than one mile from the community. Downtown Lemont offers charming shops as well as a newly opened Starbucks and Le Dolce Vita restaurant.
Children attend top-ranked Lemont School District #113 schools, including Oakwood and River Valley elementary schools, Old Quarry Middle School and Lemont High School.
