Celebrating 50 Years of Uncompromising Quality
May 1, 2004 - “If you wisely invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life.” - Frank Lloyd Wright.
Fifty years ago, a time affectionately known as the fabulous 50’s, Bob Gallagher and brother-in-law, Dan Henry, teamed up to build well-constructed, brick homes in prime locations.
From that early beginning, Bob Gallagher and Dan Henry were dedicated to the belief that a beautiful, well-constructed brick home, located in a premier setting, would result in lasting pleasure and pride for both the homeowner and the builder.
In order to attain the high standards they had set for their company, Gallagher and Henry were committed to personally oversee each home they built to ensure strict quality control and to build a bonding trust between the buyer and the builder.
According to Gallagher, when he and Henry set out to build their own company, the country was in the middle of a housing boom and land developers had “a gold-rush mentality”. However, these two young men had a vision that their brick homes would set the standard for quality and value-conscious construction for many years.
During those early days, Gallagher was a produce buyer at Southwater Mart and Henry was a bricklayer. The two young men couldn’t afford to quit their jobs when they started their company, so they conducted their business on weekends and evenings after their workdays ended. Gallagher began his workday at the fruit market at 4 a.m. and would take a break around 9 a.m. to call to make certain that the carpenters; plumbers and bricklayers were on the work sites. At 4:30 p.m., he’d pick up Henry from his bricklaying job and the two would drive to the various work sites to make sure things had been done correctly. After that, they would go back to Gallagher’s home and spend hours going over the paperwork and plans.
The two worked seven days a week for the first 14 years and built about 2,500 homes in Chicago. In the early 1960’s, they moved to the suburbs and began building in Midlothian, South Holland, Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park. Today the Company is building in 12 choice subdivisions, located in Orland Park, Lemont, Tinley Park, Woodridge, Homer Glen, Palos Heights and Palos Park.
With the long hours the two kept, there was little time left for home life, so Gallagher frequently brought his four children and Henry his six children to work with them. Henry retired from the business several years ago and the Gallagher family now runs the Company. They are all intent on keeping the company family-owned and keeping the same philosophy that has made Gallagher & Henry a hallmark name throughout the area for a half-century.
Today, thousands of Gallagher & Henry homeowners share in the Company’s belief that a well-constructed home in a prime location, using only the highest quality products, not only provides savings for the home owners…. but, is also the Company’s best sales message.
The quality and long-term value of each of the homes built since Gallagher & Henry’s founding, and the continued strong resale value of their homes, are major factors contributing to Gallagher & Henry’s unrivaled reputation which has always stood on its own.
Generations of families continue to purchase Gallagher & Henry homes. Many people living in their communities have owned other Gallagher & Henry homes, moving from one to another, as their lifestyle needs changed.
Gallagher & Henry, with its corporate office located in suburban Countryside, is a company based on traditional family values. These values are the foundation of the Company and they are reflected in every home built by Gallagher & Henry.
