Lines Form for Opening of New Phase in Tinley Park's Radcliffe Place

May 10, 2004 - Tinley Park is somewhat accustomed to having people stand in line for a concert at the Tweeter Center, but it is quite unusual to have people standing in line to purchase a home.

But that’s just what happened when Gallagher & Henry opened a new phase of development in their prestigious Radcliffe Place subdivision, located at 175th and 88th Avenue.

The news was out! Gallagher & Henry had scheduled the opening of a new phase consisting of 69 new homesites in this prime location and the crowds began to arrive.

The first of the group got to Radcliffe Place at around 10 a.m. the day prior to the new phase opening. The opening, which was scheduled for 8.a.m. on Saturday morning, was some 22 hours away. A steady flow of enthusiastic homebuyers began lining up early because they were aware of the fact that in Gallagher & Henry’s Long Run Creek and in Farmingdale Village subdivisions crowds lined up early to get the home of their dreams.

As the hours passed, and the group grew larger, they soon learned that Radcliffe Place is a friendly place to live. Nearby neighbors stopped by during the evening hours and brought hot coffee and an outdoor fireplace to keep these dedicated home buyers bodies as warm as their spirits.

It was Patrick and Stacy Callaghan of Tinley Park who were the first to arrive for the wait. They wanted to purchase the Hawthorne model in this newly opened phase. They arrived around 10 a.m. on Friday and Patrick and Stacy “took turns” to prepare for a cold, rainy night, as forecasted by the National Weather Bureau. At around 3 o’clock that afternoon, the group, which had substantially increased in number, were exchanging pleasantries while waiting in a well-formed line. “We grew up in Tinley park and have been waiting for this phase to open,” said Callaghan. “ We‘ve done our research and knew this was the builder and the location that we wanted.” “The wait really wasn’t so bad….we have waited overnight for concert tickets and this was much more important…it was for our home”, he added.

“We are moving here because of the Gallagher & Henry reputation for quality brick housing”, said John McKernan , who was No. 2 in line. “My best friend lives in the subdivision and is a supporter of the quality of the Gallagher & Henry homes. The McKernan family, with three school age children, wanted to be near the highly-rated Millennium Elementary School in Tinley Park. For their growing family, the McKernan family chose the Wrightwood model, a contemporary four bedroom two-story design.

“We had a great time meeting our new neighbors! In fact, next year we will have a block party here,” said Mark Kotheimer of Alsip. Kotheimer, who was No. 3 in the long line, arriving at approximately 3 p.m. to prepare for the all-night wait. However, he arrived on the scene very well prepared. He brought a pup tent with him and shared it with some of his new neighbors as the chill of the night set in. Kotheimer said he wanted a Gallagher & Henry home because they offer more standard features than other builders and for the quality of these homes, he felt they are reasonably priced.

Very early the next morning, it was still a party atmosphere up and down the street. Coffee and donuts were brought in and everyone was still happy, but somewhat weary. The tent was down, the fireplace out and the crowd was on its way to homeownership in Radcliffe Place. At the end of the day over half of the new homesites were sold.

Priced from the low $300’s, Radcliffe Place offers 17 distinct models, that include sprawling ranch designs to stately two-story models. Gallagher & Henry offers a wide variety of choices and options to make the home purchased as individual as the buyer.
